So now for the real stories... after about an hour of driving we were about 10 minutes from a natural hot spring that we were headed for and we went right over a giant pot hole and POP there went our back tire. With Landon frustrated, me worried and us both burning from the hot sun, I will politely say we were annoyed. So if this happened to us in America, we would either get out and change the tire ourselves, call someone to take care of it or take it to the auto shop... well when you're in Indonesia it isn't that easy. We started walking our scooter to some houses and as we would see locals we would point to the flat tire and try to ask where we could get it fixed. No one spoke English and they all would just laugh and point different ways... because nothing is as funny as some whities with a flat tire right?!? Well that's at least what they all thought. With a prayer answered we came to a man with a tire pump so he filled our tire and that was the most he could do.
So we continued on our journey on this glorious scooter and climbed up a mountain and before we knew it we were driving on the metal rim with a flappy rubber tire hanging off to the side. We thankfully ran into a European couple who happened to have a flat tire as well, that was a miracle in itself because we were literally in the middle of no where up in the mountains. So Landon took the bike down the mountain with our new Euro friend, and this other lady and I were left walking down a big mountain in the beating sun with no clue where our husbands went. We quickly became friends and chatted for the next 20 minute hike.
So we got it officially fixed, it took about 20 minutes of labor intensive work and it costed us $1, crazy I know. As we ventured back home we got lucky again with a 3rd flat tire! I was totally starving and burnt by now and so done with everything. Long story short, we got it fixed from some random 12 yr. old boy and then we found the best fish curry we had and have ever tasted, I'm glad I took a picture of it because it was deliciousss!
