Bukit Lawang, Amongst the Jungle Pt:1

Bukit Lawang, a real life bustling Tarzan town bordered amongst the wild jungle.  Mosquitos, tropical fruits (passion fruit was my fav!), refreshing rivers, and the sticky humidity.  We loved our time there and it was an extra plus that our room only cost $5 a night! We stayed there a couple more nights than planned to save up our budget for Bali.  Our first day we arrived we were, again, welcomed by the heavy humidity and were instantly sweating, always trying to find an escape from the heat.  There was a fast flowing river that split the town into 2 sides, and honestly that was the thing that kept us alive. haha We bathed in the river, washed our clothes and took a dip every couple hours to cool us down... if only we had that at home, I think we desperately need one of those here in CA during this horrible heat wave!!

My favorite thing about Bukit Lawang was the night, when the sun went down the jungle came alive.  We'd fall asleep to the constant buzzing of beetles and I just loved it! Another thing I loved was that the locals would come to our homestay, play the drums, and sing for 3+ hours until the early mornings every single night.  We'd all sing with them and sit by candlelight amongst the jungle, it was quite dreamy. Tomorrow I will post our jungle trek in the WILD!
