Landon served a mission in Madagascar, home to some of the best vanilla in the world, and brought home 2 kilos of vanilla beans! Even though I've tried to use up the vanilla in recipe after recipe, we still have tons left. They are slowly drying out, but still none the less, useable and delicious. Vanilla extract was a great way for us to use up some of our vanilla beans and actually get some good use out of them!
All that vanilla extract calls for is vodka & vanilla beans. We used 8 oz. of vodka to 7 vanilla beans. Some recipes online called for less beans, but we figured some of our were a little dry and the more vanilla the better. It has to steep for 6-8 weeks so we can't use it until February, but it will be just in time for Valentine's Day sweet treats!
