For our "baby moon" we went to Spain & France for 2 weeks while I was 22-24 weeks pregnant. This was our first time going to Europe together as a couple (besides London), and our first time spending our vacation time not in a third world country... a much different type of traveling as well as more expensive! Landon let me plan this trip entirely on my own, he was busy with school and exams so I decided on Barcelona! I've always wanted to go to Spain since I was young to learn Spanish but more importantly for the art!... and maybe the food too... but mainly for the art! Picasso, Dali, Gaudi! So this trip turned into a mini art tour without me realizing and it was very inspiring to say the least.
So our first stop was Barcelona! We planned to stay there for 4 days and our first stop was right off of La Ramla, the infamous La Boqueria....
Our favorite things to buy for a simple lunch was a fresh baguette, cheese, jamon, fresh fruit juice and a box full of the most delicious strawberries. It all added up to be the same cost as any other lunch around and it was much more fun scavenging through all the stalls to pick up each item.
I thought I'd share a few tips if you plan on going to La Boqueria:
• Go towards the back to buy the fresh fruit cups and fruit juices, you can get a better bang for your buck. All of the stalls in the front are more expensive and you can get 2 juices for 1.50Euros in the back instead of 1 juice for 2Euros.
• Stop by the market before they close, around 7:30/8pm, all of the fresh fruit and juices are half price and we were given free drinks with our purchase of fruit because they needed to give it away!
• There is seating behind La Boqueria. The first day we stood while we ate, and being pregnant I really wanted somewhere to sit, and the next day we found a square with concrete lots of benches to sit and enjoy your food.
• And this really isn't that important but because I'm a produce fanatic, check your fruit cup before you buy it, we were really disappointed that our two cups they gave us were old and moldy on the bottom. They look so pretty far away and then it's deceiving opening it up!
