Historical Processes

11.11.2010

Last semester I took a class where we went through historical processes that were used to develop the film and create photos. it was a really fun class.
I really wish i was just taking this one class the entire semester so that i could fully focus on it. during most of my schooling, lately with my spanish & psychology upper level classes i am so busy that i can't put the time and effort into my art than i want to. i am always rushed doing it at the last minute or throwing something together that i know i could do so much better on.... oh sometimes it's just frustrating... oh well that's life sometimes right? so i'm hoping i don't forget the processes and soon enough i can get back to them with photos i enjoy.

we had to do a series for our last assignment using the platinum process.
my series was based from the greenhouse here on campus.

this next technique was a 3 color gum print that probably took at least 3 full days to complete.
the difficult thing about this, was we used digital negatives and the professor was trying to find out the right settings so a lot of the photos are high contrast with this technique

and this was the first technique we did, cyanotypes, hence the blue tone. it is the base for most techniques except for platinum prints. this was a self-portrait i took last winter awhile back. we were allowed to use old photos for our test prints.
