our last project we did in sculpture dealt with the subtractive process... also known as carving! we first mixed up plaster with some kind of substance that first undergoes a chemical reaction that causes it to create heat and then hardens into a hard rock like substance. we let it sit in a bag and it created its own form. after that, we had to take the bag off and carve an abstract sculpture. it's fairly hard because what you take off... can never be put back on. so you have to be confident in what you do, but still smart about design and form. i haven't taken a picture of the finished piece but here's some for an idea.
yes, i did this in my room. we were supposed to keep it in the studio, but since i decided to have fun on the weekend instead of working on this, i brought it home and did my best to keep this off the carpet.
